SGA File Format

The SGA file format is a proprietary archive format created by Relic. It stores all the game's maps, art and most of the game data. The official archives for Dawn of War 2 are located in the ”<root>/GameAssets/Archives” directory. A properly packaged mod requires the attrib and data files packed into at least two separate archives, which are then pointed to by a module file. SGAReader2 can be used to view and extract the contents of v5 sga files. As of the 1.4.1 beta patch the Archive.exe tool is packaged with the game and can be used to extract and create v5 sga files, readable by DoW2.

See the the file formats article and the tools article for more information
Corrupt, empty or otherwise invalid SGA files will cause the game to crash.

Versions

There are several versions of the SGA format each associated with a Relic game.

Version 2

V2 is used in Dawn of War 1.

Version 4

V4 is used in Company of Heroes. Prior to the release of Archive.exe packaged with DoW2 the Archive.exe packaged with CoH was used and Corsix' SGA 4to5 tool was used to convert the v4 sga files to v5, readable by DoW2.

Version 5

V5 is used in Dawn of War 2. As of the 1.4.1 beta patch the Archive.exe tool is packaged with the game and can be used to extract and create v5 sga files, readable by DoW2.
